The first European city where our national hero set foot was in Naples on June 11, 1882. Alas, his stay was so brief that he could admire the lively metropolis only for hours. He must have seen the city only from the port. Certainly, he must have read or heard about Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii. Did he enjoy a slice of pizza with the same enthusiasm as Julia Roberts in Eat, Pray, Love?
More than a century later, an Italian professor deeply studied this man’s works. Professor Vasco Caini translated and published an extensive collection of José Rizal’s writings. As a result, he was awarded a Medal of Recognition by the Knights of Rizal, Florence Chapter, on September 9, 2019. La prima città europea in cui il nostro eroe nazionale mise piede fu Napoli l’11 giugno 1882. Purtroppo, il suo soggiorno fu così breve che poté ammirare la metropoli vivace solo per alcune ore. Più di un secolo dopo, un professore italiano ha approfondito a fondo le opere di quest’uomo. Il Prof. Vasco Caini ha tradotto e pubblicato un’ampia collezione delle opere di Jose Rizal. Pertanto, gli è stata conferita una Medaglia di Riconoscimento dai Cavalieri di Rizal, Capitolo di Firenze, il 9 settembre 2019.
